On October 22nd, 2009, Microsoft will release Windows 7 in three flavors, Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate. Hundreds of Thousands are already using Windows 7 RC on their PC’s with positive results and most early reviews indicate Microsoft has a winner, but there PC users that probably have been burned by Microsoft’s Windows Vista that are taking the “Wait and See” approach to Windows 7.
According to a survey by online retailer Retrovo, 47% of respondents say they will hold off on the move to Windows 7 until more reviews are in. 12% state they are definitely upgrading to Windows 7, while 3% said they have already upgraded to Windows 7 and 38% of the 448 respondents said they would not upgrade.

This survey in no way gives you a broad view of PC users and their opinions, but this survey is still important given that the respondents are PC shoppers and possible future users of Microsoft’s Windows 7.

Microsoft claims they have fixed all of the problems associated with the release of Windows Vista, poor program and driver compatibility, and funky security measures in Windows 7. As a user of Windows 7 RC, I have to say Windows 7 is the best OS since Windows XP. Windows 7 is faster than Windows Vista (even with applied system speed tweaks and Windows Updates) AND Windows XP. In Vista, I turned off the annoying User Account Control (UAC) immediately after installing Vista. In Windows 7, I still have it on after a few months of usage!

I’m not going to say disregard the opinions of others, but Windows 7 is an experience that is best seen and used firsthand rather than experienced through the reviews of others. Windows 7 is everything Windows Vista should have been and more. Knowing that a lot of PC users were burned with Vista, Microsoft needs to take more drastic measures in order to ensure a good turnover for Win7 and that means even cheaper upgrade pricing (Apple is only charge $29.99 for the upgrade to Snow Leopard). If you haven’t yet, give Windows 7 RC a chance. You’ll be amazed at the improvements made over Vista and if you still have XP, you’ll get a lean and mean OS that is light years ahead of XP in speed and functionality.

Microsoft took what works in Vista and trimmed out what didn't. Combine that with the "WOW" factor that is Windows 7 new GUI and its actual useful functionality AND speed, Microsoft has a winner. Although some naysayers will say it is too late, Apple has all but crushed the image of a great Windows OS. On October 22nd, 2009, Microsoft will have another say and PC users will finally be able to say with pride "I am a PC".
